Nicholas Reder, MD, MPH

CEO Founder & Co-Inventor

Dr. Nicholas Reder is a board-certified and award-winning pathologist and the CEO and founder of Alpenglow Biosciences, Inc. He received a B.S. in biochemistry from the University of Michigan, an M.P.H. in epidemiology from Emory University, and an M.D. from Loyola University Chicago before receiving his pathology training at the University of Washington. There, he completed an anatomic pathology residency and a genitourinary pathology fellowship.

While in residency, Dr. Reder won the Castleman Award, the highest honor for a pathologist under the age of 40.  Dr. Reder has published more than 30 peer-reviewed journal articles and is listed inventor on 12 issued and pending patents.

Nick has served on multiple committees for the College of American Pathologists, including as an active member of the Artificial Intelligence Committee.

Mike Dutton

CFO

Mike Dutton, CPA (Inactive), is the Chief Financial Officer at Alpenglow Biosciences, Inc., a role he has held since September 2021. He has an extensive background working with early-stage life science companies and served as a CFO for a startup medical device company for over four years. Before that, Mike spent nearly four decades at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where he was an Assurance Partner in the Private Company Services Group. His career at PwC began with Coopers & Lybrand and spanned various industries, including healthcare, technology, and manufacturing, before retiring in 2016.

Sarah Malik, PhD

Chief of Staff

Dr. Sarah Malik joined Alpenglow Biosciences in August 2024 as the incoming Chief of Staff. She holds a PhD from the University of Washington in pharmacology. Before coming to Seattle, she was a post-baccalaureate research fellow at the National Institutes of Health and during her training program, she was also enrolled in an MSc in Law with a specialization in IP law at Francis King Carey School of Law at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Sarah was previously a venture fellow with Digital Dx Ventures. She is very passionate about life science entrepreneurship and advancing technologies to improve the human condition.

Steve Pemberton

SVP Commercial Development

Steve Pemberton is an entrepreneurial commercial executive with extensive international and domestic experience in the life sciences industry. He has a proven track record of building high-performing teams and leading the commercialization of novel life science tools, diagnostics, and pharmaceutical services. Currently serving as the Senior Vice President of Commercial Development at Alpenglow Biosciences, Steve has consistently driven significant revenue growth. His experience spans working with both small startups to help them scale and with large life sciences and diagnostics companies like Abbott and Roche.

Caleb Stoltzfus, PhD

Dr. Caleb Stoltzfus is a physicist with expertise in optics, machine learning, and image analysis. During his PhD work he focused on developing nonlinear optical imaging techniques.

In 2018, Dr. Stoltzfus was awarded the Washington Research Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship to apply his interdisciplinary skills to biomedical research at the University of Washington School of Medicine. There, he developed and implemented "CytoMAP," a 3D spatial statistics software used to quantify the spatial organization of cells and structures and push the boundaries of quantitative microscopy.

In 2021, he joined Alpenglow Biosciences to advance the field of spatial biology for academic and industry partners. As director of Research and Development he leads a diverse team who build custom AI-enabled analysis pipelines that are shaping the forefront of immunological drug discovery, tissue exploration, and diagnostics.

Cody Cooper, MS

Cody Cooper is an accomplished mechanical engineer with extensive experience in engineering leadership and design. He is currently the Director of Engineering at Alpenglow Biosciences, where he has been pivotal in advancing an AI-enabled 3D imaging system including oversight of the worldwide distribution of the Aurora platform.

As the first employee at Alpenglow, Cody was instrumental in commercializing a spatial biology startup's 3D tissue-imaging system. His career spans roles in mechanical design and engineering at Hallmark Lighting, MZM Incorporate, and UCLA. Cody holds an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington, focusing on biomechanics and medical devices, and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from UCLA.

Alexandra Alvarsson, PhD

With over 15 years of experience in academic research, Alexandra Alvarsson holds an M.Sc in Biomedicine (2009) and a PhD in Medical Science (2015) from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. Following her PhD, she conducted advanced medical research at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, NY, where she became a recognized expert in 3D microscopy. In 2022, Alexandra was recruited for a Lead Scientist position at Alpenglow Biosciences.

At Alpenglow Biosciences, Alexandra leads the Wetlab team, which is composed of research associates, chemists, and bioengineers. Her team undertakes customer-driven research projects and internal R&D, collaborating closely with the company's other core teams: Engineering, Data Science, Commercial, and Finance.
