This study, led by Dr. Hordinsky and her team, utilized hybrid open-top light-sheet (OTLS) microscopy to analyze 3D spatial organization and cutaneous innervation in a patient with central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia (CCCA). Alpenglow Biosciences provided the advanced 3D imaging that captured the intricate 3D structures of the scalp, while the University of Minnesota team provided the expert dermatological insights and patient care that guided the study.

We are deeply grateful to Dr. Maria Hordinsky, F.W. Goltz Professor, and her team at the University of Minnesota, including the lead author, Divya Alley BA, University of Minnesota Medical Student Class of 2027; Sara Bohjanen BA University of Minnesota Medical Student Class of 2025; and Irmina Wallander BA, University of Minnesota Department of Dermatology, Clinical Research Program Manager, for their invaluable expertise in dermatology and their collaborative spirit throughout this project. Their guidance on the clinical aspects of CCCA and the treatment protocol with topical gabapentin has been critical in shaping the direction of this research.

The combination of cutting-edge 3D imaging and dermatological expertise has led to new perspectives on the pathophysiology and treatment response in CCCA. We look forward to discussing these findings with the broader community of dermatology researchers at SID and exploring the potential of this innovative imaging technology to enhance dermatopathology.

Thank you again to the University of Minnesota team for their partnership and to the SID for accepting our work for presentation.

We hope to see you at the conference!
